FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is Dayclipse?
Dayclipse is a Sun and Moon tracker for Android and iOS. Pick a city and it shows sunrise and sunset, golden hour and blue hour, civil, nautical and astronomical twilight, the Moon's phase, moonrise and moonset, and where the Sun and Moon are in the sky — for today or a future date.
See all featuresDoes Dayclipse work offline?
Yes. All Sun and Moon calculations run on your phone, and the city list and time-zone data are built into the app, so you can search places and read the sky without a connection. When a connection is available, the app may send basic usage statistics and crash reports through Google Firebase.
Read the Privacy PolicyDoes Dayclipse use GPS or track my location?
No. Dayclipse doesn't use GPS or ask for location permission. You choose a city from the built-in list, and the selected city and your favorites are stored only on your device.
How does Dayclipse define golden hour and blue hour?
By the Sun's altitude. Golden hour is when the Sun is between 4° below and 6° above the horizon; blue hour is when it is between 6° and 4° below the horizon. Dayclipse shows both the morning and evening windows for the selected date.
Golden hour vs blue hourCan Dayclipse show Moon phases and moonrise times?
Yes. The Moon tab shows the current phase, how much of the Moon is illuminated, whether it is waxing or waning, moonrise and moonset, the Moon's position and daily path, upcoming principal phases, Moon age, Earth–Moon distance and a monthly lunar calendar.
Moon phases explainedCan I check the sky for another day or time?
Yes. Drag along the day timeline to preview any time of day, step forward a day at a time, or pick a date up to two years ahead. Tap Back to now to return to the live view.
Can I save more than one location?
Yes. Star any city in the location picker to add it to your favorites, then switch between them with a tap. Times always use the selected place's own time zone.
What is AR Sky View, and does it record video?
AR Sky View shows your camera image with the Sun, the Moon, their paths for the day, the true horizon and compass directions overlaid, so you can find them in the real sky. Nothing is recorded or saved. It needs a phone with a compass and motion sensors, and you can use it without the camera in a sensor-only mode.
How accurate are the times and positions?
Dayclipse uses established astronomical algorithms (based on Meeus and NOAA methods) with standard atmospheric refraction. Results are calculated for an ideal flat horizon at the city's coordinates, so local terrain, buildings, elevation, weather and unusual atmospheric conditions can shift what you actually observe by a few minutes. Treat times as close estimates, not guarantees.
How sunrise times are calculatedDoes Dayclipse need an account or collect personal data?
There is no account and no sign-in. Dayclipse uses Firebase Analytics for basic usage statistics and Firebase Crashlytics for crash reports; these Google services receive device and app information when you're online. Your chosen cities and settings stay on your device.
Read the Privacy PolicyIs Dayclipse available for Android and iPhone?
